私の経歴を紹介します。昭和35年生まれで修道高校卒業まで広島で育ち、太平洋の青い海にあこがれ高知医科大学に入学し、学業よりテニス部とヨット部の活動が中心であった健康的な学生生活を送り卒業の後、同医科大学産婦人科医局にて一般産婦人科のトレーニングを受けました。

Membership

I completed my certified training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Kochi Medical School and Hospital, Japan in 1990. During that training, I studied abroad to the University of Miami School of Medicine, in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department. My area of study was the mechanism of ovulation related to serine protease (Plasminogen, collagenase). Simultaneously I joined the IVF Programme in the Reproductive Endocrinology Department at the same institution as an embryologist. After completed training as a certified OB&GYN, I had a position as lab director in a private fertility clinic, the Diamond Institute for Infertility in New Jersey, USA. A period as a lab director enabled me to study assisted reproductive technology. For the last 7 years, I have worked as clinical director of the Hiroshima HART Clinic, where I am responsible for managing assisted reproduction for 600 cycles per year. My main present interest lies in vitrification for gametes and embryos: I am responsible for the two first reports in the world successful birth from vitrified embryos. Both of these were day 2-3 embryos cryopreserved by vitrification with straw, and the blastocysts cryopreserved by ultra-rapid vitrification using cryoloop technique.

Current situation of our clinic and myself:
In our Hiroshima HART Clinic, two clinical doctors, Dr. Takahashi and I, currently specialize to manage Assisted Reproductive Techonology for infertility patients. Abbreviation of HART means Human Assisted Reproductive Technology. Around five hundreds oocyte retrievals (OPU) have been performed per year, including about 40 cases of Testicular Sperm Aspirations (TESE). HART clinic group has two other centers, one in located in Tokyo, and others in Osaka. In the year of 2002, total of almost thirteen hundreds OPU have been performed at the three HART clinic groups. Blastocyst culture and transfer with sequential media and ultra-rapid vitrification for blastocyst cryopreservation using cryoloop technique have been successfully established with reasonable clinical outcome.

I am responsible to supervise these three ART laboratories, where thirteen embryologists are currently working. Hiroshima HART Clinic is affiliated to Laboratory of Animal Embryo Biotechnology, Department of Bioresources, Hiroshima prefectural University, Hiroshima and Laboratory of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Kochi University, Kochi, Japan. We have had good cooperative relationship with them to obtain the animal preliminary results for clinical application, such as vitrification, blastocyst culture, preimplantation genetic diagnosis with FISH and embryo development.

In our HART Clinic group, I have also directed embryo cryopreservation program, especially vitrification procedures. I have reported the World First Report of successful birth of embryo transfer, which was cryopreserved by vitrification method at early stage embryo. I also have reported the World First Report of successful birth of human blastocyst transfer, which was cryopreserved by ultra-rapid vitrification using a cryoloop technique at blastocyst stage.

We believe HART clinic group have been leading the infertility field scientifically and clinically in Japan and try to keep the highest clinical level of ART treatment in the world.
